Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What inspired you to write The One Who Stayed?
A: My own journey — from heartbreak and reinvention to reclaiming my worth. I wanted to write something that felt real, raw, and uplifting for women who’ve ever asked themselves, “Do I deserve better?” (Spoiler: yes, you do.)
Q: Is this book based on your life?
A: It’s fiction, but if you know me, you’ll recognize pieces of my heart in it. The emotions are real, the settings are rooted in places I love, and the growth? 100% earned.
Q: How long did it take you to write it?
A: A few months, with a lot of coffee, late nights, and a few “am I really doing this?” moments.
Q: What’s the main message you want readers to take away?
A: Choosing yourself isn’t selfish — it’s survival. And when you do, everything else starts to align.
Q: Who would play your characters if The One Who Stayed became a movie?
A: I have dream casting ideas for every role — from an A-list Latina lead to a few up-and-coming actors I’ve been watching. Let’s just say I’m ready when the call comes.
Q: What’s your favorite part about being an author?
A: Hearing from women who say, “This is my story too.” It’s like we’re building a sisterhood through the pages.
Q: Where do you find your creative spark?
A: My roots. I’m Mexican-American, raised with a blend of tradition, grit, and community. My life in Altadena is full of family gatherings, baseball games, and the kind of kitchen table conversations that turn into scenes.
Q: Favorite writing ritual?
A: Mornings with my black Americano, soft music, and sunlight on my desk. But I also write on the go — in my car at baseball practice, in airports, even at Starbucks when I’m people-watching.
Q: Did you ever get writer’s block?
A: Absolutely. I learned to walk away, live a little, and come back with more life to pour into the story.
Q: Any advice for aspiring authors?
A: Don’t wait for the “perfect” time — it doesn’t exist. Write what scares you, because that’s where the magic is.
Q: Will there be another book?
A: Oh yes. I have stories lined up that blend love, resilience, and the kind of life moments that deserve a camera lens.
